The background
Game company 2K Czech reached out to us for animation services for the iconic game MAFIA — Definitive Edition. The producer reached out to us, as he was looking for a local partner in the Czech Republic with expertise in character animation. He wanted to be able to communicate directly and seamlessly throughout the outsourcing process.
This three-act game required a significant volume of animation. 2K Czech, based in Brno, had never worked with a Czech animation studio before, we had no prior experience in providing animation for games. This meant there was a lot of learning ‘on the job’ but one that we were up for!
The challenge
Building a team with the right skill set was just the start. We then put them through rigorous tests with the producer. These tests weren’t just about securing our involvement— they became a benchmark for the client’s quality standards. More than assessing the animators’ skills, these tests became a crucial training ground.
This two-way feedback helped our animators grasp not only the client’s expectations but also understand the priorities of the lead animator on the client’s team. At the same time, we were able to track the progress of our own team as well as the lead animator.

Characters came to alive
The task
Our job was to bring the characters to life through animation based on motion capture, specifically for the game’s cinematics. This involved body and face animation.
How we went about it
Our team consisted of seven animators working remotely from different locations around the world. However, the first tests didn’t quite hit the mark, and even our top animators fell short of the lead animator’s expectations.
This led to a really productive face-to-face meeting, which was a game-changer in terms of getting up to speed. With this newfound clarity, the communication was much smoother with everyone working from the same page.

In 2020, Keith received a commission from Shining Isle Productions in Nashville to bring The Wingfeather Saga fantasy novels to life as an animated series. Despite a limited budget, he took on the ambitious task of creating a 200-minute first season.
The result
We successfully worked on the MAFIA – Definitive Edition project for nine months as the client’s exclusive body animation supplier. According to the producer, we’re one of the best outsourcers he has ever worked with.
